By Deon Cash
The Indiana Fever took another tough loss on the road as they were defeated by New York in NYC by a score of 91-80.
With the loss the Fever now sit at 0-3 on the early season.
On the bright side, it was the best showing of the Fever this Season from start to finish, and they were led by Caitlyn Clark, who dropped a career high 22 points in her third game.
Breanna Stewart led the Liberty offensive attack with 24 points, as all five starters scored in double figures in a balanced effort for the Liberty. Jonquel Jones had a double double as well (14pts, 12 reb).
New York would drop 33 in the 1st quarter, racing to a 57-37 lead by halftime. The Fever would regroup, but the deficit was too much to overcome in losing their 3rd consecutive game.
Clark 22 lead the team, and Kelsey Mitchell, who got the start alongside Clark, dropped 18 in the loss.
Here are the GREAT, GOOD, BAD & UGLY of Game 3
THE GREAT
Clark and Mitchell provided great offense at times and showed how the team will look moving forward....Clark becomes only 4th player in WNBA history to accumulate 50 points and 15 assists in first 3 games of her career....The Fever won the rebound battle (36-32) after getting destroyed in the trenches in Game 2.
THE GOOD
Aliyah Boston had her most efficient game of the season...Seeing Clark and Mitchell make 7 3-point shots in the game is a good sign...Fever had their highest scoring effort of the season...Indiana won the 2nd chance scoring battle (16-8)...The Fever won the 3rd and 4th quarter scoring (43-34). C-F Temi Fagbenle provided great juice off the bench with 8 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, & 2 steals in 18 minutes in the loss.
THE BAD
Indiana lost in 1st quarter and trailed by double digits at half for the 3rd consecutive game...Caitlyn Clark had 8 turnovers in the game, which needs to be reduced in half...the bench was basically non existent with Fagbenle providing the most....
THE UGLY
The Fever schedule has been brutal, as they faced the two best teams in the East 3 times already....The bench was non-existent, and scored 11 points total...The Liberty outscored the Fever 28-2 in fast break points....New York shot 47% from the 3.
THE NEXT OPP: vs Connecticut Sun
The Fever just faced the Sun on opening night in Connecticut. Tonight they will face the Sun on their home floor in hopes of getting their first w on the season. The game starts at 7pm ET at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
