VIRTUAL 2020 DRAFT NEW WAY OF LIFE?
DRAFT OR NOT, LANDERS, MCCLUSKEY HOPE TO MAKE IMPACT IN NFL
With the new NFL Draft being all online tonight, we are seeing a draft that has never been done like this before.
Due to Covid-19, the NFL Draft will be done virtual-style, eliminating the hyped-up crowd that is revved all week in readying for the event.
With no crowd, the NFL will follow the WNBA and do a online draft, similar to what video gamers do in their own homes.
Each team will be at their own respective homes or offices, with computer screens, flat screen TVs, computers and ever gadget they can have to make the net draft run smoothly.
While the WNBA did their online draft with moderate success, the WNBA Draft isn’t half as long as the NFL Draft.
The NFL Draft is seven rounds of intensity, with thirty teams taking as much time as they can to make their picks. Throw in trades, commericals, interviews, Mel Kiper, Todd McShay, and you have a long, long, process.
There are two kids from the Dayton are who have a real chance to succeed at the next level.
One went the big school route while the other went small school.
Robert Landers, the burly big man that clogged the middle in possibly the top defense in the country, is one of the kids readying for this new process.
“BB" which he is affectionately called, was instrumental in helping the Buckeyes reach the final four in college football.
The former Wayne grad, Landers had a very good career at Ohio State.
Landers timely plays and leadership on and off the field made him a true Buckeye ambassador for the team. His ability to win a crowd is easy, whether he’s with his football buddies or if he’s at a event. The guy’s a show stealer. But the 6’1 285 pound beast ability to get off the snap is why he will be one of the best picks to take later in the draft.
There are serious reports that 2 or 3 teams are interested, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who recently signed Tom Brady ans is working on
Darryl MCCleskey Jr, the other local player who, despite being a unknown around the national scene, will be a diamond in the rough if the right teams realizes how great this guy is.
In the mold of a Marshall Faulk, he has breakaway ability. But his ability to be elite in catching and blocking is a huge upside. Not to mention his strength; he is much more powerful and aggressive than you think.
The former Thurgood Marshall Cougar and Wayne Warrior carved out a RB career at Eastern Kentucky that rivals only the greats.
So much so, that MCCleskey could really be on a roster come August.
He is that good.
A two-time time all league performer, he is as dynamic as it gets at the running back position.
Hopefully these two local legends will hear their name on draft day today.
But if not, don’t be surprised to see both of them on NFL rosters come 2020-21 season regardless of being drafted or not.
