Dayton Hoopers Invade WNBA as Hall, Westbeld, Hobbs Selected in WNBA Draft

Dayton Hoopers Invade WNBA Draft as Hall, Westbeld, Selected in 2nd Round; Hobbs Selected in 3rd Round

By Deon Cash

The Dayton women hoops tree was well represented yesterday as three ladies from the Miami Valley area was selected in the 2025 WNBA Draft.

This is the first time in history that 3 ladies have been selected in the WNBA Draft from the Dayton area.

Bree Hall, the 2-Time National Champion and 2-way Wing player at South Carolina, was selected in the 2nd round (8th pick) by the Indiana Fever. She was taken with the 20th pick overall.

The Fever were extremely thrilled to get Hall, as she could play a nice backup role to a revamped team who looks ready for a championship run.

Hall, a former Wayne Warrior, is a dynamic defensive player and can hit clutch shots as she did her whole career at South Carolina.

Maddy Westbeld, the forward from Notre Dame, was taken by the Chicago Sky with the 16th pick in the 2nd round.

Westbeld, a Fairmont grad, was a "Swiss Army knife" type player for Notre Dame.

A versatile forward from Fairmont HS who stands about 6'4, Westbeld can guard anyone from 1-5 and can also run the offense along with doing whatever intangibles in the game needs to get the win.

Westbelds' scoring prowess is also very underrated, and look for her to mesh well with Angel Reese, Haley Van Lith, and the rest of the Sky squad. She will be a rotation player at the very least.

Jordan Hobbs, the former Springboro Panther star, was taken with the 34th pick in the 3rd round by the Seattle Storm.

Hobbs, a Michigan grad, is a wing player who can light it up offensively, as she did in the NCAA Womens Tournament against Iowa State.

Hobbs could find a way into the rotation as the Storm look to retool for the new year.

This is a huge moment for Dayton hoops as three ladies found their way into the 2025 WNBA Draft.

Watch out for Hall, Hobbs, and Westbeld as they navigate through the WNBA this season.
