Major boxing event jumps off tonight in Dayton for first time in over 25 years

In one of the biggest sporting events in Dayton in the last 2 decades, "The Awakening" Era is goin' down tonight.

Ignited by CEO Milt Pearson, the Awakening is a series of boxing matches featuring some the best young talent in the sport of boxing in the Midwest.

Pearson, combined with his son Chris Pearson, to put on the event in Dayton.

Both are extremely excited for this event, and knows what this could mean for the 937.

Not to mention with young, hungry, buzzing boxers like Will "Knockout" Clemons, Jeff Camp, & Javar Jones leading this first boxing event in Dayton?
  Should be a epic night.

With all 3 gaining major consideratio
from the Money Mayweather team, it's safe to say that Floyd will be paying attention this event, no matter where he at.

Now let's talk about the boxers:

Will "Knockout" Clemons, a Daytonian, has been out in Vegas with the Mayweather team, and it has went well for Clemons. With power, fortitude, charisma, and the ability to attack?

He is definitely on the rise, and is estactic to be able to fight in front of his home crowd.

As is Jeff "The Nightmare" Camp.

Camp, who is also being watched closely by the Money Team as well, is looking to explode onto the scene tonight.
Camp, has worked hard to get to this point, and ain't worried about Mayweather.
His focus is primarily on establishing himself tonight in front of his home fans.

 And knocking his opponent out.

And the 3rd premiere boxer on the card, Javar Jones, hails from Indiana, but is also looking to make a name for himself.

He has been working out of Indianapolis, and has set his sights on stardom as well.
With a great team in tow, watch out for Jones tonight and in the future.

As for the Awakening, the reception has been nice, but now is time for the city to show support..

Chris Pearson, headed for a title himself, has went #AllIn on this event, and hopes that he himself can fight in front of his home crowd in the future.

For the title? Or a title defense?
Sounds likely.

But first, welcome a new Era of Sports and Entertainment tonight at the Dayton Convention Center (7pm).

All the talk is over.

Fight Night in Dayton Ohio!
Sounds good to me.

Pearson bounces back, gets easy win in DC; Title fight next for "Young King?"

A week before the fight Chris Pearson was seemingly in good spirits, as he was fully aware that this next fight coming his way could possibly be a "Make or Break" chance in the boxing world.

The Dayton, Ohio (Trotwood) native, Pearson had started his career like a raging fire, knocking out a lot of opponents (11 KOs) and going 16-0 in the process.

Under the tutelage of arguably the greatest boxer ever in Floyd Mayweather Jr, his immediate & long term future looked bright for the Pearson camp.

So good, that, in essence, it was looking like the "Young King" (Pearson nickname) was ready to start challenging for serious middleweight title consideration.

However, before his last fight, Pearson felt extremely sick, and and slightly unprepared - literally -
going into work camp that final week.

A man who never makes excuses, Pearson decided to go with the fight and give it his best, although he knew he wouldn't be at 100%.

Pearson would lose his 1st fight in his career, and it would stun Pearson & his camp.

Before that fight rapper Lil Boosie told the Pearson camp it would be a tough one and his boy (Eric Walker) was ready for the challenge.

Pearson looked a little slow, and lost on a decision on Spike TV.

It was Pearsons' first loss as a pro, and it would momentarily stun the Mayweather - Pearson camp.

Now fast forward to last night.

The Pearson and Mayweather camp both knew that in order to get Pearson back on that Championship trail, it would have to start in DC.

The "Young King" and "Money Mayweather" pre-fight

With that being said, Pearson came out strong and won on a unanimous decision by all three judges in a 10-round decision last night on Showtime.

David Braswell, Wayne Smith, & Paul Wallace, all esteemed boxing judges, scored the fight 98-92 in favor of Pearson.

The referee was Billy Johnson.

Pearson looked much sharper in this fight, and seemed to have his jab and counter punch working all night. While Ghana born Joshua Okine (22-6) had some nice moments and landed some jarring punches, he was clearly no match for Pearson.

While Pearson wasn't too thrilled with his performance, (He personally gave it a C-), it still was a good effort against a very tough opponent and sets him up to get a possible championship matchup in the near future.

Most times, boxing is not a "pretty" sport. And Pearson understands that as long as the Ws keep coming, the opportunities to be the Young King will be available.
His strategy was simple, yet effective:

Don't get caught with a "One Hitter Quitter," stick to your gameplan, read and react, and get the W.

Sounds like the gameplan from the legend himself.

Pearson showed preparation, calmness and the demeanor that he was "Ready from the Jump".

Could a  championship belt be next? It'll definitely be on the topic in the Mayweather - Pearson camp.

Regardless who he fights next, best believe that Pearson will be ready front and center.

He's already back in the gym, as we speak.

Salute the "Young King" on his victory.

NOTES:
The Pearson  fight was on the undercard of the Badou Jack  -  Lucian Bute  fight, which ended in a split decision. Jack was irate, calling the decision "Bullshit" and felt like he should have won the fight. While Bute didn't argue about the decision, it did look as if Jack won the fight.

Jack wants to fight James DeGale (23-1)  the IBF Super Middleweight champ who narrowly won a mini brawl last night over Rogelio Medina (36-7) of Mexico.

Can Bengals continue to reach new heights with undefeated streak?

The Cincinnati Bengals are embarking on one of the greatest seasons ever in their franchise history and tonight they will look to get a little bit of revenge against the Houston Texans at Paul Brown Stadium  tonight (830 pm) on Monday Night Football.

Can Adam Jones lead D to the Super Bowl this year? He thinks so

The Bengals are 8-0 and are looking to go to 9-0 for the first time in franchise history.

The Bengals are loaded everywhere there and I'm sure they remember the two losses that they took to the Houston Texans in the playoffs recently.

Those losses were crushing, in the mere fact that both games were games that the Bengals felt like they should have won.

I'm sure some "Getback" is in the minds of the Bengals and Who Dey Nation for this opportunity on Monday night as well.

In speaking with defensive leader Adam Jones, he felt like this could be the Bengals year, no doubt about it. With the defense playing at its best, and the offense clicking on all cylinders with Andy Dalton posting MVP like numbers, could this be the year.of the Bengal?
Can't lose a game like this tonight, expecially with the second part of the season starting tonight.
Look for a Bengals win tonight;  the question is, will we see the same old Bengals, or have they finally turned over a new leaf?

"The Problem" Solved; Broner headed toward "Best Pound for Pound" boxer title soon

A couple years ago, Adrien "The Problem" Broner, already a champion, seemed like he was on his way to becoming the best "Pound for Pound" boxer in the world.

4-Time Champion  Broner celebrates after TKO

Then "The Problem" started having problems. He started losing focus. Less training. More entertainment. More money than he'd ever seen.

Waaaayyy more money = Waaaayyy more distractions = Waaaayyy more problems.

A millionaire at a young age had gotten to Broner, who had a couple lackluster fights, to say the least.

Once thought of as the heir to the Money Mayweather throne, now was in a little bit of a spiral. He still remained in the top 10, but was seemingly middling with his God - given ability and hard work he had put in for over a decade. And he was ranked 8th, 9th, where he should have been ranked 1,2, or 3.

At the time, Broner was living it up. A young, black, famous, star athlete from the Nati, with millionaire status, the ability to knock anybody out and a personality to match? Already with titles in hand?
Not hard to see why he had slippage.

Now? He's back in grind mode.

That was no more evident than what he did to  Khabib Allakhverdiev on Saturday night.

Broner bringin' the pain...

Broner (31-2) came out firing early and often, connected on 50% of his power punches, cut him up early, and finished him off in the 12th on a 4-piece that had the referee calling the fight. Broner badly hurt Khabib in the 6th and the 11th, but he stayed in the fight.

Broner had just done it again, winning his 4th different title in 4 different weight classes- being the first since Oscar DeLaHoya. But while he was happy with his performance, its clear he wants that Pound for Pound title.

It was his best fight in 4 years, and it served notice that Broner is back. When he spoke, he talked about being a little immature and not dealing properly with the luxurious life that comes with the territory.

But like the bully Damon said in the classic movie, Friday after Next, "We all grown up now."

And so is Broner.

And you got a feel of that throughout his pre, and post- fight situations. His powerful display showed up in the ring too.

Now with Mayweather in his ear even more, you can expect the charismatic Broner to move back up the charts, make sound decisions, work harder than he ever has, and maybe climb to a spot he could have never reached a couple years ago.

#1 Pound for Pound.

Problem Solved.

NFL Top 5 Games in Wk 2

With the opening game in the books, it's time to talk about the hottest games of Week 2 in the NFL.

(1) Bengals  @ Chargers
The Bengals came out strong @ Oakland, while the Chaaa-gers came back from 17 down to beat the Lions.

Chargers defeated the Bengals in Cincy a couple years ago to stop playoff run.
"WHO Dey" Nation hasn't forgotten.
We got Bengals winning 30-20.

(2) Pats   @  Bills
This game featuring Rex vs whoever is on the Pats team he can talk trash to ensure order to hype game up; Only thing is - Ryan probably has his most talented team ever. Can T. Taylor play as good as Brady? If so could be a long day for New England.
We're takin Pats 23-21

(3) Seahawks  @  Packers
In what has become the "Best New Rivalry" in the NFL, can the NFC Champs bounce back after a rough loss last week, and shake off Marshawn Lynch momma to go up in Lambeau and beat the team with the best QB in the NFL?
Not to mention the Hawks beat the Pack to go to the Super Bowl last season...
We got Packers winning 40-37.

(4) Cowboys   @  Eagles
In a game that will have emotions running high, can DeMarco Murray, the NFL reigning leading rusher, haunt the team who let him go? And will Chip Kelly's collar get any tighter if they can't beat a Boys' squad without their best player? (Dez Bryant)
Were going with Eagles 40-37 in OT

(5) Titans   @ Browns
In another marquee matchup with two young gunslinger in Marcus Mariotta (Titans) & Johnny Manzo (Browns).  While Mariotta having as perfect a opening debut - in going against Fameous Jameis Winston - in Week 1, won't be fazed by Johnny Manziel or the Browns.
Were picking Browns to win 26-23.
& Johnny will shine today.
Extra game
49ers @  Steelers

NFL Week 1 winners, losers, MVP, LVP, Studs, duds and more.

Now that the NFL has kicked off check out all the highlights, lowlights, and everything in between in Week 1 in the NFL.

Top Headlines:

(1) Brady - Gronk combo destroys Steelers
Brady shook off the deflategate accusations, lack of preseason work and all of his haters to perform and throw 4 TD's (3 to Gronk) tefeat the Steelers. Brady for MVP this season?
Hmmm....

(2) Cowboys, Romo, escape with big W over Giants
With no DeMarco Murray this season, another year of disappointment of not reaching Super Bowl & a division rival in week 1, it looked as if Cowboys would let the G-Men  grab a big road W. But a brain fart by Coach Coughlin and a Eli Manning
incompletion  set the stage for a clutch Romo comeback, hitting his main man Witten for a TD in the final seconds,  alleviating a big injury to Dez and avoiding the dreaded 0-1 start.
Romo was magical & looks as ready as ever to maybe get them Boys to the next level.

(3) Mariotta outshines Jameis in rookie QB duel, Titans roll
In a matchup which featured the top 2 QBs in college last year, Mariotta threw 3 TDs in the first quarter alone, as the Titans defeated Tampa Bay.
While most people think Winston is the better rookie QB, Mariotta proved he will be someone to be reckoned with. And I'm sure he's not too thrilled he lost that Heisman Trophy to Jameis last year.
One up for Marcus in the pros...Stay tuned.

WK 1 OVERHYPE MACHINE AWARD GOES TO:

EAGLES -  Granted the Eagles have a lot of new pieces, but after the first half? 20-3?
Where's the high powered offense?

DeMarco Murray stats: 8 rushes, 9 yards, 2 TDs

While the Eagles did get it rolling in the second half, it still remains to be seen if Bradford can stay healthy and if the other pieces will fit. If so? Eagles should be flying high by mid-season.
If not?
Chip Kelly could be on the waiver wire.

COLTS -   The Colts were the "Trendy" pick for the Super Bowl adding Gore, Andre Johnson, and others, solidifying their chances to get to the Super Bowl.
However the Colts got blitzed by the Bills and their stingy D and rejuvenated O. Indy was shut out in the first half and dominated overall. Will be interesting to see how they bounce back.

SURPRISE SQUADS OF THE WEEK

BENGALS -  The Bengals despite having Super Bowl talent on the roster, have been known to not play up to their capabilities.  Well, with a healthy
Tyler Eifert and a seasoned D? A near shutout of the Raiders, a near flawless first half and a legion of "WhoDey" fans who feel this could- & should be the breakout year of the Bengals.

CHIEFS -  KC picked off new Texans QB Brian Hoyer on the first play and never looked back, scoring 26 at the half.. With a healthy Jamaal Charles and a more comfy and relaxed Alex Smith?
Could be a banner year for the Chiefs.

49ers -   After a tumultuous off with  the departure of their coach,  players being suspended, a legend going to other teams, and everything in between, it looks like the 49ers we're going to be headed for a rough season. but with a revamped defense, a quarterback who looks comfortable in the pocket for once, and a new running back in the fold with Carlos Hyde, it could become a good season for San Fran.

MVPs of Week 1 -

BRADY and GRONK -   The dynamic duo once again proved that when healthy, there is no better combo in the NFL.  both are on the early watch for MVP.

Tony Romo -   With his star  receiver injured, Romo led the Cowboys to an amazing drive late in the game to capture the first victory of the season over the Giants. not to mention that he leads the league and come back drives over the last 5 years. this could be Romo's banner year, as he looked as cool and calm as ever in directing the Cowboys to a huge win.

J.J. Watt -  Although Watts Texans team lost, the top Defensive player in the League did what he does best.
Dominate.

LVP (Least Valuable Players) of the week:

LUCK - Colts   Luck was harassed all day by the Bills, and racked up a couple INTs en route to being shut out in the first half.. This from the front runner for preseason MVP?

BRIAN HOYER - Texans   Hoyer, after winning the job with a nice preseason, unloaded a INT on the games first play, setting the tone for a KC smacking of the Texans. Hoyer was replaced by Mallet, and won't start in game 2.
Talk about a rough start to a season.

BYRON MAXWELL - EAGLES     Maxwell, who left the Legion of boom and signed a youth contract with Philly, was torched by top wide receiver Julio Jones over and over and over again. Maxwell was brought to Philly to be a shutdown corner. If he can't get it done? The Eagles will be hurting.

Best team in Week 1 - BENGALS
Worst team in Week 1 - VIKINGS
