Clark State Defeats Hocking as as Team Stays Alive, Sets Wins Record for Program
By Deon Cash
The Clark State Eagles have broken a lot of records this season.
But the win over Hocking hit different, as the Eagles won their 20th win of the season, eclipsing the previous record of 19.
The Eagles, on sophomore night, celebrated a 103-70 win over the Hawks as they pushed their overall record to 20-9 while staying in the OCCAC tournament race.
The sophomore class, featuring Omar Banks, Romeiro Martin, Jarmaine Tubbs, Tabias Thompson, & Brandon Miller, led the way in front of a packed house.
Hocking lead early before the Eagles took command, taking a 13-point lead, only to watch it evaporate as Hocking went on a run.
But late in the first half the Eagles ignited another run to gain a double digit lead at half (56-41).
They never looked back.
All of the players played well, as did others in the blowout win.
But Brandon Miller, who dropped 21 on the night, lead all scorers and it was "Miller Time" on many occasions in the 1st half and was the MVP of the game.
Coach Alstork had some words for his sophomores.
"I really appreciate the sophomore class who have laid it on the line for me the last two years. Without them I don't know where we would be. They have shown the consistency and dedication it takes to help turn a program around. I love them all and hope they can succeed at the next level."
Now, with 1 game left, the Eagles, who don't control their own destiny, still can make the playoffs with a win and some help. They will take on the top team in the league on the road (Lakeland).
"We understand where we at. Like we have done all season long, we will come prepared to play. We didn't have the focus to win the last game in Cleveland. We will go back ready to play Saturday. We need that win. We're going to leave it all on the court. Were gonna' put all our chips on the table and let them fall where they may."
The Eagles play Saturday in Lakeland at 11am ET.
