Clark State Men Wins 5th Straight, Rolls Past Rio Grande; Ready For Crucial 3-Game Stretch

Clark State Men Wins 5th Straight, Rolls Past Rio Grande; Ready For Crucial 3-Game Stretch

By Deon Cash

The Clark state men's basketball team were able to pull out another big win Wednesday night as they defeated Rio Grande.

The game was a close back and forth affair, until about the second portion of the second half.

That is when the Eagles used it's intensity, offensive execution and defensive prowess to shut down Rio Grande in the second half, causing them to shoot a low percentage, and helping them build a double-digit lead. The Eagles would win 78-62.

With only 7 players seeing time, it has seemed to bring the team closer together.

With the win, the eagles now move to 12-10 on the season. It also keeps them in the hunt for a top 3 spot in the OCCAC at 4-5 on the season.

And it gives Head Coach Quinton Alstork and the team their first 5-game winning streak in his era. What Alstork and his squad have done in this season has been remarkable to watch.

"I like the way my team has responded to the adversity. We were 7-10 and going nowhere fast. But after a closed doors team meeting with them, giving them a chance to speak and address issues and bonding with them, we have bounced back and are tighter than ever. I love these guys." Alstork stated.

With All American candidate Isaiah Masteller taking on a bigger role as a leader, along with Brandon Miller, David Mensah, Tabias Thompson and Jermaine Tubbs stepping up their respective games, the team has turned its season around.

Even Ramiro Martin has continued to blossom as a key player off the bench.

However the next 3 games will give a indication of where the Eagles are and will finish this season.

The Eagles will head up northeast to face Lorain CC (Saturday 11am) before the rematch with Edison State on Tuesday (Home game, 7pm) and then a possibly huge game against Lakeland CC.

But for now, the Eagles will take one win at a time.

"We gotta get this win tomorrow." Alstork stated.
