The Shaker Way Recap: Lady Raiders Ready for Rematch vs Warrensville With 1st Place on the Line
By Deon Cash
The Shaker Heights Lady Raiders have been unstoppable lately, and with the Lady Raiders sitting at 11-5 on the season, their confidence is at a all-time high.
Coach Carlton Conwell has changed the dynamic of the team, and with it has come a whole new energy, which the Lady Raiders continue to ride. Since the loss to Solon, the Lady Raiders have been 5-1 with their only loss coming on a road loss to a tough North Ridgeville team.
They have slayed most of the conference foes in defeating Bedford (63-5), Lorain (56-32), then going on the road to defeat a tough Cleveland Heights squad 57-49 to keep them in the LEL championship race. After dusting off Garfield Heights (58-10) and Maple Heights (56-9), it sets up the 1 vs 2 rematch that Coach Conwell and the Lady Raiders have dreamed of all season.
"We felt like if we put in the work early in the season that it would pay off, and it has." Coach Conwell stated.
"We have a chance to play for the chance to be in 1st place in the LEL in our first season. We feel extremely blessed for this opportunity.
The girls have come together, and our coaching staff have done a excellent job of keeping the ladies focused on a daily basis. We didn't have our best game at Warrensville earlier in the season and it was a lesson learned. We took it on the chin and moved on.
Now, we feel like we are ready to go toe to toe with them. It will be a exciting weekend here for the school and the program.
Let's go Lady Raiders!"
Warrensville is 10-0 and with the win would basically solidify themselves as the LEL champion for the second year in a row. The win by Warrensville would put Shaker and Cleveland Heights with 2 losses, with only a few games left to play.
Warrensville is led by Player of the Year Candidate Janiyah Bohanon, who is averaging 20ppg, 7.4 rpg, while shooting over 60% from the field. PG Paris Gilmore runs the show and Sr G Ravyn Gill leads the defense.
For Shaker, Jazzalyn Robinson was just the LEL player of the Week and now Lizzy Favret was player of the Week this week, so the Lady Raiders are hitting on all cylinders.
Expect a high energy environment on Saturday as the top two teams in the LEL clash.
"We ready for a great matchup here at Shaker." Coach Conwell stated.
