Champions Dinner Raises Nearly 25k

A.C.Green, the "Ironman of the NBA", made a appearance at the Champions Dinner earlier this week. 

Green, 3-Time Champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, has the record for the most consecutive games played in NBA history (1192) and shared some of his experiences with over 350 people in attendance at Sinclair College as part of a fundraiser hosted by Cedric Howard. 

Howard has been a Ambassador of the Alzheimer’s Awareness campaign for a decade. In the last few years, the event has picked up some major support, raising thousands of dollars on the way. 

'It feels great to give back to this cause that has hit my family and so other families as well. We want to do whatever we can to eradicate this horrible disease that affects millions of people lives every day." Ced Howard stated.

"I'm very happy that A.C. Green came to our event. He is such a classy guy and we hope to have him back at our golf outing since he plays golf." 

The event was DJ by U92 own Faith Daniels, and had the live band Top Secret to provide the music entertainment.  

Vendors Such as Popz Hats & Clothing, Network & Chill, and others surrounded the venue, and the service and food was superb which went seamlessly with Daniels and Howard hosting the event.  

With the Alzheimers organization in tow, the event was a big success once again as they very nearly reached the goal of $25,000 raised.

With the college hoops season coming to a close, the Clark State Eagles did have a couple of players who were honored last week.

Isaiah Masteller, the dynamic combo guard, was honored as a first team All OCCAC performer this season.

Masteller had four 30-point games and two 40-point games. He had a stretch where he was averaging 35 ppg for a 4-game stretch. He dropped 39 against Cuyahoga in final game of the season. He also aberaged 40ppg vs Hocking, who tied for the OCCAC regular season title. 

Masteller, the Anna graduate who is a freshman,  was clutch down the stretch when the Eagles were nearly making history with a run that had never been done before. 

Clark State finished one spot out of a Regional Championship and had their best record ever. 

Here are the 1st and 2nd team All-OCCAC Selections.

"I'm extremely proud of Isaiah and what he did for us and himself this season." Coach Alstork stated. 

As far as Alstork, he would fall in the Coach of the Year sweepstakes to Lakeland head coach, who tied with Hocking to win the OCCAC League. But it brings up a interesting question.

Did Alstork Deserve the Coach of the Year nod?

He took the Eagles to their best season ever, and defeated #13 ranked Lakeland along the way. This happened without a legitmate guy over 6'6 on the roster.  

Clark State swept Edison State for the first time in history. They also had the highest scoring team in the league and Top 5 in the country (92ppg). Add multiple winning streaks of 3 games or longer, and you have a legitimate gripe if you are Clark State and coach Alstork.

By the end of the season, the Eagles had 7 players and had multiple injuries come along. Despite all of that, Alstork and Masteller led a new era for Clark State mens basketball.  

And don't forget, the administration blew a game by not turning in the official scorer on time. So Clark State was officially 16-12 before that forfeit took place. 

Congrats to Masteller on his selection and Coach Alstork on changing the culture in his first season.

Green Makes Trip Back to Gem City After Over a Decade 

A.C. Green, an NBA Champion during the "Showtime Era" led by the L.A.Lakers Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, will speak tonight at the Alzheimers Dinner held at Sinclair College tonight.

Green was a power forward who came from the country and landed in the epicenter of basketball with the Lakers after starring at Oregon State.

He then would win multiple titles (3) with that legendary squad, as he became a important piece of the puzzle that was dominating the 80s basketball scene in the NBA with his rebounding, finishing, and hard work.

But there are two other things about Green that significantly stood out. One was basketball related, and the other was a personal choice.

When it comes to basketball, nobody has played in more consecutive games than A.C. Green.

His record of 1,192 consecutive games played still stands today in the NBA.

  In this era where players takes games off, don't expect anyone to break that record anytime soon. Mikal Bridges is the current active NBA record holder with over 440 games played. 

 In 95-96 J.R. Reid hit him with a dirty play, causing Green to lose 2 teeth as he nearly sustained a concussion. He nearly had his streak broken. 

But alas, the next game, Green would be on the floor, signaling how incredibly tough and focused and his unwavering commitment he had to the game.

Green is also widely known as the player who abstained from having sex until he got married. This had to be a task in itself, with Magic Johnson and the Lakers providing the Show in Showtime on and off the court.

 There were instances when the some of his teammates sent women to meet him, but Green denied these ladies. 

Green would eventually marry his wife (Veronique) in 2002. He is now 60 years old. So Green literally went 38 years before having sex. 

Which could be another NBA record as well.

Green would coach briefly after his basketball career, and now has a flourishing non-profit (A.C. Green foundation) along with being the Director of Sports for the United Basketball Alliance in India.

Green came to be a Host of the Top Talent Basketball Camp over a decade ago, so this will be Greens' first steps back in Dayton since then.

Tickets are still available for the event as Green, Howard, Faith Daniels and others will speak to over 300+ people who will be in attendance tonight.

Springfield Grad One Win Away From March Madness Bid; Can Cleveland State Get It Done Today?

Mickayla Perdue, the eletrifying guard with a absolute strap on her shoulder, is one win away from realizing a dream.

Cleveland State faces Wisconsin Green Bay today for the Horizon League Championship. 

And to think, just two years ago? 

There was no way Perdue could have envisioned this. 

Perdue, was a star at Springfield High School, where she made all GWOC, all District, and all-state for the Wildcats. 

She then would head to Toledo for 2 seasons, where she would redshirt her sophomore year after. 

At that point she decided to transfer and head to D-2 Glenville State.

She would then rediscover the love and the sauce that made her a All-State selection and the leading scorer and 3-point sniper in Springfield girls hoops history. 

She averaged almost 18ppg, shot tremendous from the field, and led Glenville State to the D-2 Final Four. 

After that season, Perdue entered the portal and was immediately swooped up by Cleveland State. 

it has been a perfect union, and Perdue will attest to that. 

Perdue is leading the Lady Vikings in scoring while shooting a high percentage from the field and 3. 

"I'm glad that i came here. We spent a lot of time together in the off-season and that chemistry has definitely helped us this season."

Perdue was named the Newcomer of the Year after leading the Horizon League in scoring (17.2ppg). 

Today they will face Wisconsin Green Bay, who they split the season series with. Green Bay is talented and has a dominant big, so it will be a stern test.

But with everything "Mick" has been through, don't expect anything less from the Springfield native than a championship effort in todays game. 

The game will be on ESPN today at 12pm.

The Clark State Eagles mens team finished off their final home game in dramatic style, which has been their vibe all season.

There were so much dramatics, that despite having only four players left in the game at the end, they still were able to make history and defeat Edison State 89-86 to pull off the season sweep against them. 

Coming into the season they had never beaten Edison State. 

Now they done it twice in one season. 

With the win it also guarantees their first winning season in Alstork's first season. They now sit at 15-12. 

They will finish up the season Saturday on the road facing a Cuyahoga team they literally are behind for a playoff spot. 

"It has been a very good season and we accomplished a lot of goals. These boys and our staff put left it all on the court for us each and every game. That's all you can ask for." Alstork stated as they prepare for Cuyahoga. 

Congrats on Coach Alstork and his staff for changing the culture in just one season.

The Clark State Eagles did what very few thought they could do. 

(1)They legitmately competed for a spot in the Region Championship and battled for OCCAC supremacy. 

(2) Tied for 2nd place in the conference during the season.

(3) Won the most games in school history 

Along the way, they also accomplished another huge feat:

Defeating Edison State on the road. 

This had never been done in the history of the Clark State mens basketball organization. And to top it off, it was done on the road, which added a little icing on the cake. 

Coach Quinton Alstork helped elevate the program ten fold, and before the season, one of the main goals was defeating Edison State. 

When the Eagles defeated Edison State, it was a very important victory, keeping the Eagles at 2nd place in a extremely tough OCCAC. The team would celebrate, knowing that it had never been done in the programs history.

Fast forward a few weeks and in the last home game of the season, the Eagles will have the chance to achieve what no team has ever done in Clark State history:

 Defeat Edison State twice in the same year. 

The Eagles are in 4th place in the OCCAC with Edison State sitting right behind them in the 5th spot.

 So although they won't be playing for a championship, it will be a great environment as the Eagles look to move to 15-12 on the season and secure the 4th spot in the OCCAC this year. 

"I'm very proud of this team. We scrapped from the beginning of the season and we accomplished a hell of a lot in my first year. We definitely want to make history tonight." Alstork stated. 

The game will tipoff at 7:30.
