Top 5 Games in High School Football; Week 2 Schedule

SportsEffectLive.com saw a crazy week 1 which featuted the best players (Malik Zaire, Heath Harding) doing what they do best, while some teams got off to a good start (Thurgood, Oakwood, Dunbar) and others not so much (Trotwood)...

Here are our SELive HOT 5 GAMES of Week 2 in MIAMI VALLEY High School Football

 (1)  Dunbar  1-0       @   Trotwood  0-1      7pm
   With Dunbar coming off its electric last minute win last week over Valley View, the Wolves will be charged up for the Rams, who lost to powerhouse University (Fla) last week on ESPN. However, look for the Rams to be a little upset as well, with players settling into their roles a little better. Still, off of a short week for the Rams, this will be a battle, as the Defending D-2 Champs cannot afford to go down 0-2 in the season.


(2)  C-J  1-0   @   Thurgood Marshall  1-0       Welcome Stadium 7pm
    With both teams winning on the road last week, this should be a great early season matchup. Marshall continues its Double wing T offense led by Soph QB Ja'Mahl Manley, while C-J will hand the ball to Fab Frosh QB Jacob Harrison, who lead the Eagles to a late W in Troy last week.


(3)  Canton McKinley 1-0 @  Wayne 1-0      Sat 7pm
    Wayne showed this year that its defense will be much better, and it will get a stiff test from McKinley, who has beaten them two years in a row. Wayne will need to be consistent on O and will need an even better effort defensively to pull out the win. Watch out for Defensive standout Dorian Hendrix in the game, as he could be a major factor for the Warriors.


(4)  Springboro   1-0  @  Centerville  0-1  
   This rivalry between neighbors heats up as the Panthers travel to take on the Elks tonight; The Boro won last week, uglified nevertheless. They will have to be on their best performance tonight to take out the Elks, who look to get back on track after falling last week 34-21; If Sprinboro can pull off the upset, they could vault up the polls.
 

(5) West Carrollton  1-0  @  Franklin  1-0
   One of these teams will be 2-0, which could be huge in securing a possible playoff spot. Franklin will be led by their RB Chris Hymer who ran for 143 last week. West Carrollton will be ready for the rivalry.

BONUS GAME
   Alter     @   Guerin Catholic (Ind) 
  Alter and its prized QB (Malik Zaire) looks to head to Indy to take on a powerhouse. The Knights typically do well on road trips, and this one will rack up some points in the Playoff Polls...This could be a tell-tale sign of how good Alter could be.

Miami Valley High School Week 1 Recap, Results,SELive Star of the Week

SELive STAR OF WEEK 1:   MALIK ZAIRE ,  Alter QB

Zaire led the Knights last year to a undefeated record last year - only to have it erased by the cinderella Thurgood Marshall team in the playoffs (first rd); Zaire, who's headed to Notre Dame, held off a tough Fairmont squad 42-35. He threw the ball 30 times - which for Alter is "amazing" as he put it - for 251 yards and 5 TD's and ran for 171 more with another TD.



SELIVE HOT 5   FOOTBALL  WEEK 1 RESULTS      

University (Fla) 33, Trotwood 14  (ESPN)
    University showed why they are one of the elite teams in the country, jumping out to a 19-0 lead and holding on before a live audience. Trotwood scored, and was threatening late in the 3rd, but a INT return for a TD ended their hopes of a comeback; Trotwood had flashes of showing what they could become this season, but with inconsistent play, the bright lights of ESPN, and some new faces, it will take some time for this team to gel. Up NEXT:  vs DUNBAR

CJ 21, Troy 14   
     C-J's Fab Frosh Jacob Harrison directed two TD drives in the last quarter to seal the deal against the Trojans. Although he didn't start, C-J coach Marcus Colvin called his number, and he delivered, (GW TD pass to Antwan Persons) to the chagrin of new Troy coach Scot Brewer.

Wayne 30, Winton Woods 20
     Wayne won ugly on defense, and had a couple spectacular plays as they sprinted to a 20-13 lead led by Javon Harrison 2 TD's  and Centerville transfer Devin Reed, who also threw a 80-yd TD to Jessie Bray to set the tone. The Warriors finally won their first game since 2009. The Warriors forced turnovers, blocked punts, and set the tone from the jump. Dorian Hendrix led the Warriors defense.

Dunbar 22, Valley View 21 
    Dunbar looked to be headed to the L column after getting a stuffed punt deep in their own territory with less than 2 minutes in the game (game tied 14-14); Valley View scored two plays later, and they took a 21-14 lead with less than a min left in the game. However, two silly penalties by the View, and Charles Johnson, who had his punt snuffed, would score to pull within 21-20; The Wolverines went for 2 and Dontay White dove over the line to give Dunbar the lead and the W.

Top 5 High School Football Games in the MIAMI VALLEY

SportsEffectLive.com knows that when it starts gettin dark before 9 and the leaves start to change, its football time. And last year, High School Football was possibly its best ever in the Miami Valley with teams winning championships, players going to top level colleges and even teams being ranked in the top 25 nationally (Trotwood-Madison). So now with a new season underway this weekend, we'd like to bring you the

SELIVE HOT 5 GAMES OF WEEK 1 in HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL

(1) Trotwood-Madison vs. University (Fla.), 3 p.m., ESPN
   The Rams won it all last year, and in doing so, established themselves as a dynasty in the making; Only question is, will they be able to become possibly one the best teams in the country? This game on Sunday will go a long way to proving the Rams belong.

(2) Alter at Fairmont, WING-AM (1410), 1610.info, ohiosportsline.net
      This rivalry will be renewed once again tonight as the Knights look to bounce back from a magical regular season only to be stumped by Thurgood Marshall in the first round of the playoffs.

(3) CJ at Troy, 1570wptw.com, PressProsMagazine.com
      This matchup will feature two teams who made it to the postseason, with C-J going on a huge run, while Troy was consistently good all last year. Both teams return high college level talent.

(4) Middletown vs. St. Xavier, 8:30 p.m., TWC Ch. 99
     Middies will match their top running game against St. X stubborn D and uptempo offense. Both of these teams will be playoff bound for this season.

(5)  Wayne vs. Winton Woods, 5:30 p.m., WSWO-FM (97.5), daytonoldies.com
     Will Wayne bounce back this season and maybe get into the elite category when Braxton Miller was there? Winton Woods will be ready
     
BONUS GAME: Valley View vs. Dunbar, 8 p.m., WPFB-FM (105.9), CindaySports.com
     This game features two different teams, but both like to run. Dunbar will look to shake it up and watch out for a good year from the Wolves this season.

 Heading into end of Olympics, we have seen the Women step up in some crucial areas (gymnastics, water polo, volleyball, soccer, basketball) to help the USA surge to a 10 medal lead (90-80 over China) into the weekend...Usain Bolt wins the double 100 & 200 to do what NOBODY has ever done; win both events in back to back Olympics....And the mens USA hoops squad looks to bring home the gold this weekend....Has been a great Olympics, and should be a great closeout weekend for the USA squad.



                                                                                    
2) Dwight Howard gets traded to Lakers
    
       Finally the Dwightmare is over!! Howard was traded to the Lakers in a four team trade in which Bynum will head to Philly, Andre Iguadola to the Nuggets and Aaron Affalo and Al Harrington to the Magic; Id have to say the Magic gave up the MOST in this trade and got the LEAST...They did get some 1st round picks, but they should have gotten more than they did. And on top of that,the Lakers was able to keep Pau Gasol, in which Kobe is still doing backflips about.


3) NFL PreSeason Action, Signings
    Pre-Season action has kicked off this week with the Hall of Fame game, and now with the first week of games heading into this weekend...RG3, Peyton, and Mike Vick all got some action thursday...The Bengals will take on the Jets, who have been the Super Bowl champs of MEDIA COVERAGE....After months of pleading, Terrell Owens signs a 1-yr deal with the Seahawks...Word is that Plaxico Burress could be headed to Cowboys..hmmm
  

4) Norris Cole , Daequan Cook headline Charity Event

    Norris Cole and Daequan Cook will be headlining a Charity Hoops Event  Saturday at Stivers High School. The Charity event is Cook's, and will feature some pros on exhibition as Cook raises money for his foundation to get kids into college. Doors open at 6 and will start at 7.


5) Reds Recap
   After winning 10 straight and accumulating the best record in baseball, the Reds have lost 3 in a row; They still lead the division, but mounting up losing streaks during this time won't help the cause...Votto is a few weeks away, but I think that the Reds got a little bit of luck by running all those W's without missing Votto. Its starting to seep in, but Reds must continue to have a killer instinct in order to hold off pesky Pirates or late charging Cardinals.

Barry Larkin best SS ever? Daequan Cook BBall Camp, Olympic questions, NBA Schedule, NFL Training Camps open

Whats good peoples!! These are the hot topics of the week/ weekend as we head into August... Which issue do you think was most important?
Heres the SELive HOT 5 TOPICS of the Week:




(1) Barry Larkin inducted into MLB Hall of Fame -

Larkin giving his Hall of Fame Speech

      Larkin, who was the Best SS in the National League in the late 80's through the early 2000's, was the quintessential player for the Reds. He led by example, and when necessary, with his voice. He won a MVP despite hitting 20 HR in that year; He won a World Series and led Reds to multiple Playoff runs. He was a  5-Time All-Star, and possibly his most valuable contribution was his efforts off the field, making him the most popular Red since Johnny and Pete and those guys. Known around Ohio as "Barry the Red", Larkin could be considered one of the 3 greatest Shortstops of all time.



(2)  Daequan Cook Basketball Camp - 

  
     Cook, who had a Shootout just two weeks prior, now hosted his Annual Basketball Camp, compiling the best of the best as he held his Camp at Dunbar High School. Although it wasn't heavily talked about, Cook continues to make strides in helping the young continue their dreams. Cook had hundreds at the Camp, and the last day of camp he had the best high schoolers in the Miami Valley go at it. Cook looks forward to getting back on the court next season and is rooting his teammates on to bring back the gold during the Olympics.


(3)  NFL Camps open this week-

     Are you ready for some football? With only a week away from August, you can almost smell the fall sneaking up on us, which obviously means its time to talk Football. NFL camps opened this week, with prized free agent Peyton Manning leading the Broncos, and newcomers RG3 and Andrew Luck leading their new teams respectively, in their practices. Funniest moment so far: A reporter calling Jets QB Mark Sanchez "Tim"...
NOTE: Cleveland and Cincinnati open this weekend



(4) Olympics JumpOff this weekend-

London gets ready for Olympics

     Every four years the best of the best in the world duke it out for their respective countries, and now is London's time to hold the 2 week Gala; Biggest Headlines: How many MEDALS will Phelps win / will Lochte knock him off his throne? Which Usain Bolt will we see? Will MoMo Jones win that elusive Gold Medal? Will the USA Hoop teams win the Gold despite the tough road?  Will London be as good as anybody at hosting the Olympics?


(5) NBA opens Schedule for 2012-13 season
     NBA fans now know when Steve Nash and the Lakers will take on the defending Champion Heat; Or see when the Brooklyn Nets open up their new arena vs Knicks, no less; Or when Dwight Howard and the Magic....or wait a minute, I meant future Laker, or Net, or Maverick....oh well. You get the point. NBA schedules was released and there are some great matchups on tap early for next season.

Local Dayton hoopsters litter NBA Summer League

    Since the NBA Finals, SportsEffectLive.com Staff have been looking forward to seeing the offseason free agency, waiting for moves such as Dwight Howard, Deron Williams, and Jeremy Lin; By the time Summer League Time rolls around, normally we're not really interested (as is most NBA fans). But with so many players in the NBA coming from Dayton and the surrounding colleges, its a great time to watch any NBA hoops. Anytime. Which has brought me to keep a update of some of the guys who are making a impact on the NBA Summer League with ties from the DYT.


G- Brian Roberts, New Orleans Hornets     (Former UD Flyer)
     When Roberts left UD he was basically "the guy" to helped lead the Flyers to a Top 15 ranking for the first time in decades; then he went to Germany and in short time he became the best player in Germany, prompting the Hornets to give him a look. He has taken full advantage, leading the Hornets to a win and scoring in double figures in his last two games...His ability to score from deep and run a offense could be the key to him sticking this year. He's averaging 13 ppg during the Summer League

G- Norris Cole,  Miami Heat     (Dunbar grad)(Cleveland St. alum)

     Like the old hit "Cheers" everybody knows who Norris Cole is now; amazing what a year makes. One minute, he's hoping to be drafted; Next he's being a key part of a NBA Champion. But not resting on his achievements, Cole has come out in the Summer League looking like one of the best, if not THE best, player in the Summer League. He led his Heat squad give the Lakers their biggest beatdown in SUMMER LEAGUE HISTORY.




SG-SF   Chris Johnson, Philadelphia 76ers  (former UD Flyer)
     Johnson was offered a chance to join the Sixers team and has not dissapointed;  He averaged 7 points and 6 rebounds, with a team leading 11 rebound, 2 block effort in one game; Johnson never fully reached his potential, but hes a stat sheet stuffer who could find a home - possibly near his home - in Philly.

PF-C  Devin Searcy (former UD Flyer)
    The Detroit native and former big man for the Flyers never had the career he quite wanted at UD, but he was definitely one of the better surprises for the Sixers as well. Searcy averaged 7 points and 7 rebounds and had two double figure rebound games and was a presence for the Sixers. Another reason he may stick: His + / -  in the last two games was +22 and +8, which im sure will make any coach, GM, and NBA President look twice.


SF-PF   Chris Wright (Trotwood grad & former UD Flyer)        
    Wright was able to get into the NBA last year (Golden State) thanks to the lockout, which granted him a chance to get to work on a daily basis with NBA'ers, which has been invaluable. Wright started with Warriors, then was sent to the Raptors, and looks to found a landing spot. Wright has averaged almost 10 points and 6 rebounds as a starter on the Raptors team, and has had a few highlight reel slams (video here)to go along with it; But one sign of his true potential was revealed in his last game in which he dropped 15 pts with 6 boards and hit a 3-ball as well, indicating that he has worked on his shooting range. Raptors execs are pleasantly surprised with Wright, and look for him to get some time on the Raptors squad come next season.                    



PG-SG   Kenny Hayes  (Northmont Grad & former Miami Redhawk)
      Hayes is a scorer who played on the NBDL Select Team that went against the NBA squads. Although a little short for a 2-guard (6'1) Hayes can flat out put it in the basket. He's averaging 7 ppg, shooting over 50% from three, which is sure to give him a long look on somebodys squad.

Whats good my sports peeps! Another exciting weekend of sports action. Heres the biggest SELIVE HOT 5 HEADLINES for the weekend:


(1) Reds sweep Cards, stay on top of NL Central

BPhillips and Molina about to go at it

  With the second part of the MLB season heating up, and the fact that two Reds players were snubbed by Ex-Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa for the all-star game, this series was important, and the Reds delivered, sweeping St.Louis after ex-Card Scott Rolen hit a GW-2RBI double to put Reds 4 up on the Cards, and 1 up on the Pirates for first in the NL Central. Don't be surprised if Cards and Reds are left fighting for the division come September.

 (2) Brees $100 Million Dollar Man

 Drew Brees ended his lengthy holdout on the last day as the Saints gave him a 5-yr, $100 million dollar deal, with 40 mil up front. Wow. Can you say #winning?... I guess the Saints realized that he will be a player-coach this season, as the guy who got em to come to the Big Easy (Coach Sean Payton) is suspended for a year. Look for Brees, who broke the single seasom passing record last year, to do the same.



(3) Melo calls Lin's contract offer "Ridiculous"; Knicks opt not to resign Lin
     Carmelo Anthony has been the center of attention - again - after saying that the offer that the Knicks had to match from Houston (3 years, 25 million) was "ridiculous." Soon after, the Knicks signed Jason Kidd, traded for Raymond Felton, and the Knicks have looked Lin off more than Melo did when he was in the game. Funny, that it was Melo who advised his coach that Lin should play. Maybe he means "just not on my team."




(4) NBA Coach Tom Townsley holds basketball camp (YMCA) in Dayton

   NBA shooting Coach Thom Townsley held his annual Youth Basketball Camp in Dayton (YMCA Huber Heights and Springboro) last week. Townsley, who currently works with players from the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever, was excited to help the young kids become better players and people, as there were a lot more participants in the event than last year. When asked about the Pacers next season, Townsley thinks that Paul George will be a player to watch for next season.  NOTE: SportsEffectLive.com will be having Townsley on the show this summer. SportsEffectLive.com also helped SPONSOR the Camp for the 2nd Year, and seeing the growth in the camp is a definite positive.


(5) Mud Volleyball Tourney goes down

    The Annual MUD VOLLEYBALL Tourney went down last weekend (20 years strong) as over 300 teams battled it out in the biggest volleyball tourney in the Miami Valley. With over 50 sponsors, hundreds of tents, and great food and drinks on display? Definitely was a great time. As long as you dont mind gettin dirty..... SportsEffectLive will DEFINITELY have a team in it next year! Whos ridin?
