The Dayton Air Strikers look to continue their hot streak as they take on the PBL Champion Rochester Razorsharks tonight at 7pm @ Roosvelt. The Razorsharks are 9-1 and atop the Eastern Divison in the PBL, whle the Strikers are tied for second in the divison (3-4) and look to get to .500 for the first time this season. The Strikers lost to the Razorsharks in their last meeting, in which it was decided in the last 5 minutes of the game, with Rochester making more clutch plays en route to the road win. However there was a huge disparity at the free throw line as the Razorsharks shot 30 more Free Throws than the Air Strikers, due to a huge physical presence and a championship mentality which the Air Strikers look to match.
Coach McGuire leads the Strikers in combat
Look for a intense battle tonight, as the game will be held at the new Roosvelt (Dayton Boys Academy). The Air Strikers have teamed up with the youth programs in Vandalia, Kettering, and now head into the Dayton Public School area as they continue to build their Air Striker Youth Program, which is suprisingly faring well. If you are looking for some pro level hoop action, dont miss this game. Check out @TVsports.com to watch it live online.
Game Notes: Air Striker William "Bo" Harris is coming off his most efficient offensive game, scoring 31 points on 15 shots....F-C Aaron Perry is questionable for tonights game, still suffering from a leg injury...The Air Strikers will have 4 local players active tonight (Daquan Walker, Brandon Hassell, Eugene Wade, and Devaughn Bunyton for the first time this season....If the Air Strikers win tonight, they would have beaten all 3 opponents in their divison on the streak...G Avery Smith says he is fully healed and ready to go after suffering a back injury duing preseason; He tallied 5 steals, and 7 assisists last game, and could be a key factor in this game as well.
The Dayton Air Strkers won their second consecutive game (3-4) in he PBL they beat the Lake Michigan Admirals 96-86 last night in Michigan. The Admirals jumped out early, holding a lead in the first quarter (26-22); However the AirStrikers took command of the second and third quarters, outscoring the Admirals 56-35 and building a 15- point lead heading into the 4th quarter.
Lake Michigan fans get into the game
The Strikers were led by William "Bo" Harris who dropped a season high 31 points with 6 rebounds in the win. The Strikers had four guys in double figures, with Brandon Hassell posting a double double (15 pts, 10 reb, 3 blocks). And while the Strikers didn't hit the century mark, they did hold a Lake Michigan team to 86, which is the Strikers best defensive game to date. Strikers G Avery Smith led the defensive charge with 5 steals to go along with 8 rebounds and 5 assists. The Admirals was led by Florentino Valencia with 25 points and 8 boards.
AirStrikers grinding on defense
With the win the Air Strikers move into a tie for second in the East Division of the PBL. The Strikers host a game on Friday against the champion Rochester Razorsharks (8-1), then hit the road for a two game road trip.
Air Striker G Leonard Mitchell shows his hops on D
The Dayton Air Strikers will try to get back on the winning track as they will host the defending PBL champion Rochester Razorsharks tonight (7pm @Trent Arena Fairmont High School). The Air Strikers (1-3) have been unlucky on the road (0-3), but they are undefeated at home (1-0), as this will be a crucial game in the Air Strikers season as they continue to work on getting back in the top half of the division. The Razorsharks put some wood on the Air Strikers last week with solid defense, great teamwork, physical toughness, and a championship swagger that the Air Strikers weren't ready to deal with. However on a good note, former Wisconsin Milwaukee G Avery Smith will be available for this game, as he had his coming out party with 20 points in the loss to Rochester last week. With Smith at the shooting guard, and half-court shot makerWilliam "Bo" Harris playing the 3, this should give the Air Strikers a offensive boost that will definitely help the team.
The fans were a 6th man in the last home game against Charleston (who beat Rochester by the way) and will be in definite need tonight as they take on the Razorsharks who are coming off a 112-100 win over Lake Michigan. Rochester is 4-1 and lead the Eastern Division. Please come and support your local pro team.
The Dayton Air Strikers pulled out a dramatic 104-103 victory over the Charleston Gunners in the PBL opener for both teams. The Air Strikers have now won 8 straight contests (dating back to last season in IBL and preseason in PBL) . The Gunners and Air Strikers played a tense first half with Charleston contorolling the tempo and holding a slim lead at half...From from the 3rd quarter on, it was all Air Strikers as they controlled the second half.
However with 2 minutes to go the Strikers lost a 7 point lead, as Gunner guards Will Collins, Mike Armstead and Vince Goldsberry dropped key buckets to make it look like Charleston would sneak a road victory in its opener. Down 102-97 after a Will Collins 3 pt dagger, the Strikers would get a free throw by William "Bo" Harris, and after the Gunners made 1 of 2 FT's the Air Strikers G Leonard Mitchell dropped a huge 3 to pull the Air Strikers within 1 (102-101); After a quick foul with 2 seconds left, the stage was set for the amazing finish (which should someday soon make it to ESPN TOP 10)
After the Gunners missed the second attempt, "Bo" Harris grabbed the rebound, slid past two defenders and shot a 55 -foot heave from just past halfcourt that was a prayer - and was answered with a back rim swish as the Air Strikers had pulled out the come from behind victory. The Gunners team, coaches, and fans watched in shock while the Air Striker players, coaches, fans -and even the mascot - in Trent Arena went crazy...Dayton Air Strikers 104, Charleston Gunners 103.
After the game I was able to talk to former Trotwood High hooper and now Gunners Assistant Coach Kalan Smith, and he was also in disbelief. He did say that him and his troops will be looking forward to the next game, which will be a rematch on Sunday. He also felt like it was a great game.
Mike Troll, Aaron Perry, Brandon Hassell and Daquan Walker were key players in the game while Harris will wear the hero tag. The shot was incredible, and if its any indication on how this season will go for the Air Strikers in the PBL, you might want to buckle up. Could be a wild ride.
PreSeason PBL Champs open season Friday (Trent Arena 7:30pm)
After winning the PBL Preseason Tournament in December the Dayton Air Strikers will open the PBL Season against the CharlestonGunners on Friday, January 6th (7:30pm). The game will be at Trent Arena in Kettering as the Strikers look to start out the season the way they ended the IBL season and the PBL preseason - Winning. The Strikers have won 7 straight games in the respective IBL and PBL and look to continue that winning formula on Friday. This team has been led by Penn St. grad and local baller Brandon Hassell along with Pikeville College's William "Bo" Harris and former Milwaukee-Wisconsin G Avery Smith. The buzz in the PBL cities has been that the Air Strikers could challenge the champions last season (Rochester Razorsharks). Rochester was in attendance when the Air Strikers won the PBL preseason title at Lake Michigan, and the champs was impressed, so look for a great regular season as the Strikers and Razorsharks compete in the same division, along with Charleston, Lake Michigan and Scranton (PA). (more info at www.thepbl.com)(www.daytonairstrikers.com)
There will be some new faces on the team, along with some of the players from last season in the IBL. Gone will be CJ Anderson, Marcus Thompson, and Jerrelle Redden, and others from last season and local legend Quade Milum (Colonel White) agreed to join the Harlem Globetrotters. However there will be some new faces such as Laron Mann, Aaron Perry & Mike Troll, who have relished the opportunity to step in and make their presence known. And the Air Strikers will continue to develop talent from the Miami Valley area, as one local will be counted on to make a impact this season (Daquan Walker) and another will be making his rookie debut in the pro ranks (Devaughn Buntyn). Both of these hoopers played at Dayton Dunbar while Buntyn finished at Xenia.
Coach McGuire with his Strikers
There is a better buzz about the team this season as opposed to last season, and this season figures to be a key one as the Air Strikers look to build their fanbase, win games and offer a great atmosphere for good players to become better pros. There is more stability within the franchise, and with a head coach like Chris McGuire, the team will always be competitive and fun to watch. Owner Anthony Byrd has seen the ups and downs of the semipro circuit, and now feels like this could be the breakout year the Air Strikers (and the Miami Valley) need so that people will start to respect them in the same way they do the Dragons, Gems, and Silverbacks. There are a couple of big announcements for the Air Strikers on the way this year, and one things for sure - The Strikers are trying to build a winning basketball program and should be commended for that. There is some legitimate NBA talent on the roster, so the games will be exciting for all to see.
NOTE: In February the Dayton Air Strikers will launch a Youth Striker Program which will benefit kids (girls and boys) who want to become better basketball players (from ages 8-18) and a Striker Development Team which will consist of mostly talent from the Miami Valley. The Strikers want to develop a "farm system" which gives young people who have the desire and dreams to make college and pro basketball a reality. Contact dcash@daytonairstrikers.com for more info.

The NFL has been great this year, with a ton of storylines for the final regular season week....While some teams have already reserved tickets to some exotic island for a getaway, others are playing for playoff positions, and also draft positions. Which brings us to our SELive Top 5 NFL Games of the Week:
SELive Watch Factor Rating: 1-5 1- Catch the highlights 2- Sleep off and on but watch 3- Flick back and forth but watch when important 4- Im checkin this game out, hope i get to watch it all 5- Miss this game? Are u CRAZY! Wheres the remote! WEEK 17 Games (1) Baltimore (12-3) at Cincinnati (9-6) (1pmET) - Normally this game would be a playoff tuneup for the Ravens, but not this season, as the Bengals have suprised everyone, including themselves, while now having a shot at the playoffs; However, RayRay and the Rave squad also need this game badly, as they are looking to get a bye and a top seed in the playoffs. The Ravens have never had that home field, so i'm sure the Ravens will be ready. The question is, which Bengals team will we see? Andy Dalton and AJ Green have been saviors for the team, and they will have to be in top form today to pull off the win. And on top of that, the whole nation wants to see if Cincinnati can prove the doubters wrong, especially the ones in Cincinnati. Note: Nice to see that Bengals fans decided to get tickets at a 2 for 1 sale price so this game would be on TV.. SELive Watch Factor: 5
Jerome Simpson flips over defender into end zone - LITERALLY
(2) NY Giants (8-7) at Dallas (8-7) - (830pmET) In this NFC East battle, the winner of this game will move on to the playoffs while the loser goes home. Both of these teams have been inconsistent all year, bringing us to this point. Dallas held a late 12 point lead against the Giants at home three weeks ago, but couldn't seal the deal, while the Giants have been a mystery to most, winning tough games and losing to inferior opponents. Pro Bowler Eli Manning has been, for the most part, a one man show...But with RB Bradshaw healthy, Jacobs seemingly playing with more intensity, and the Defense ramping up its game (along with being at home), it will take a focused Romo for 60 minutes to snap a jinx against the Giants, who have had the Cowboys number for the last 3 or 4 years. SELive Watch Factor: 4.5
Will Tebow-Mania ride into playoffs?
(3) Kansas City (6-9) at Denver (8-7) (4:15pmET) - All year, the Broncos fanbase had been craving for Tim Tebow. When current Chiefs / former Broncos QB Kyle Orton wasn't generating wins, Tebow was given the opportunity. In return he has led the Broncos to a 7-4 record, given life to a franchishe which was looking towards the draft earlier this season, and has become a impossible guy to not like or hate. Even John Elway has bought in to TebowMagic. But 2 losses in a row, and a guy who feels scorned by the way the Broncos treated him (Orton) makes this a magical game in the Mile High City. Orton would like nothing better but to send the Broncos on vacation, and best believe he will do EVERYTHING in his power to make that happen. Will Ortons rage be enough to stop Tebow and his magic touch? SELive Watch Factor: 5
(4) Indianapolis (2-13) at Jacksonville (4-11) - While Jacksonville already have started looking into next season, the Colts have not; Especially Peyton Manning. While it was noted that Manning bought the backup QB a new car after the win last week, they will still need another win to stay out of the Andrew Luck Sweepstakes. Now where there has been all type of scenarios, believe this; Those players want Peyton Manning as the starting QB next season. And they will play inspired ball this game to prove it. Manning doesn't want another QB in his Colts spot next year, but with a loss, he might be battling Luck next year for that spot; or he could be somewhere else, say Jets or Cowboys next year? SELive Watch Factor: 2
(5) Pittsburgh (11-4) at Cleveland (4-11) (4pmET) - While to most fans this game will be nothing special, this has major implications in the Playoff Race. If Baltimore wins, then this game will have as no meaning. However, if the Ravens lose to the Bengals, then Big Ben (on his injured ankle) will try to get the Steelers a first round bye, the division championship, and a chance to rest his body for another week. Last year the Browns beat the Steelers in a late Thursday game, and this will be a battle. Depending on how the Bengals Ravens game play out, of course. SELive Watch Factor: 2.5
The labor lockout this year has turned this NBA season into a Autobahn, where teams are having to play, think, revise its roster, practice, add / release players, and travel at a rapid, record setting pace. The offseason, while short, was memorable and the 2 preseason games? C'mon man!! As a whole the NBA games have been slightly under par, but most of the players are in shape. Finding out where your favorite role player is now who was on your team last season? Not so easy....No matter what, you gotta love the NBA and its great that its back, even if Principal Stern (oops, Commissioner Stern) threatened to send all the players to China and Turkey...
Anyways, here are SportsEffectLive.comTOP 10 STORYLINES of the NBA 2011-12 season. Enjoy!
(1) Can the Heat rebound? (Norris Cole Effect, Humblization of Lebron)
Not 1, not 2, not 3....
Last year the Miami Heat was the overhyped bullies of the league, figuring that if they team up, instead of going solo aginst the likes of Boston and LA, that they would have a better chance to win not 1, not 2, not 3 championships...etc. and so on...However, that fairytale ending ended with a suprised thud the size of Dirk Nowitzki's arc on his jumper every time it left his hand. The Heat had lost to the Mavs in classic meltdown fashion (after being up 1-0 & 2-1), had looked unclassy in the process (imitating Nowitzki's cold) and with it had Bosh on instant meltdown with LeBron going in hiding for a month or two. After workin' on his game this summer with Akeem the Dream, LeBron seems more at peace than ever before. Miami did do well in the draft, getting sleeper Norris Cole and aquiring Shane Battier through free agency, and looking at their early gallop out the gates, they could be headed back to the NBA Finals; Getting there won't be enough as they are win or bust this season.
Can LeBron get a ring ring?
(2) Will Lakers get over Paul trade block? (New coach, Odom traded, DHoward to LA?Kobe divorce)
The Lakers tried to pull off the deal of the brief NBA offseason by doing a huge trade to get Chris Paul a few weeks ago; However, principal (I meant commissioner) Stern disallowed the trade AFTER ALL TEAMS in the trade had given it the stamp of approval, making it feel like the Lakers had pulled another doozie, only to be Kevin McHaled (SELivedefinition: up and under pump fake) by Stern and swooped on by the LA Clippers. Although the Lakers lost Lamar Kardashian Odom (Mavs) and Coach Phil Jackson (meditation school), they still have enough talent to win a NBA Championship. They are still on the Howard bandwagon, and dont be suprised if Superman ends up in Hollywood. However, will Kobe be able to play at the level he always has, with a (1)new coach(2)a divorce on the way and (3) Father time catching up with his leaping ability?...We think he will, as he always has. So look for the LakeShow to be in the Title Mix.
(3) Where will Dwight Howard end up?
Superman to Hollywood?
Superman has one year left on his contract, and the Magic have tried (to no avail) to get Howard a second star to help them get to a championship; They lost in the Finals a couple years ago, only to move backwards since, while aquiring Gilbert Arenas, Hedo Turkoglu, Jason Richardson and others; Seems like the Magic aren't sure what to do, as trade rumors had Howard going from Jersey all the way to LA...I think he will eventually be traded, although Howard has said if we get another primetime player that he would be willing to stay. One things for sure - wherever he goes, the shift in power will go as well.
(4) Can the Mavs repeat?
Dallas had a dream season last year, starting fast, and finishing strong with a dramatic Championship run; The hard part is that because of the new labor agreement, the Mavs had to let go of a few players who were catalysts in the championship run (JJ Barea, Tyson Chandler, Caron Butler, Deshawn Stevenson). Grabbing Odom, Vince Carter, and Shawne Williams were good moves, but will it be enough to get them back to back Titles? Not so sure....Word is that the Mavs are in the hunt to get Dwight Howard, but that looks like a longshot.
(5) Can the new BIG 3 make it happen in New York?
New York Knicks hasn't been relevant since the Pat Ewing days and one magical year with Larry Johnson,(I do miss the grandmama ads) Allan Houston, LaTrell "choke em out" Sprewell and company; Now with Tyson Chandler joining Melo and Amar'e, the Knicks look like a team headed in the right direction. If they get any production from the guard spots, they will be a Top 4 Team in the East (along with Chicago, Boston and Miami). They had a winner in Billups, but didn't wanna pay 14 Million to the vet, so they let him go. Will that hurt them in the long run?
(6) Does the Old BIG 3 in Boston have anything left in the tank?
Boston's Big 3 (now BIG 4 with Rondo) has won a Championship, lost a championship, and now looks like they have 1 last title run left; PaulPierce is now back and playing good nontheless, which means they still will be a player for the East; Will they be able to muster enough energy in a short compressed season to challenge the Heat, Bulls, or Knicks with all 3 of those rosters having young hungry talent?
(7) Miami Valley Local Lookout...(Daequan Cook, Norris Cole, Derrick Brown, Chris Wright)
DCook with NBA 3pt Trophy
For the first time ever, Dayton, Ohio has 4 guys, born and raised in the DYT, on NBA rosters; While Daequan Cook is the elder statesman of the group, he's only 24 with a NBA 3-pt Crown to his achivements; Norris Cole (Miami) has burst onto the scene stealing the Heatles show in his second game (14 of his 20 pts in the 4th quarter to seal the win) and will be a Rookie of the Year Candidate; Derrick Brown is now in the rotation in Charlotte and Chris Wright is on the practice squad in Golden State, but making great strides and im willing to bet that he will be in uniform before the end of January. This is a GROUNDBREAKING year for Dayton, and hopefully all the youngsters in the Miami Valley will realize, with hard work, patience, and a little luck, they can too be on a NBA roster.
(8) Will the Cavs look good or bad about their draft decisions? (Rookie of Year talk)
Irving and Thompson
Cleveland had 2 of the top 4 picks in the Draft, and went with Duke Guard Kyrie Irving and Texas big man Tristian Thompson; Irving has a load of potential, but due to the fact he only played in a handfull of games at Duke, this season will be paramount to him and the Cavs. Thompson is a athetic 6'10 who is in the LaMarcus Aldridge mold...The Cavs passed up on Arizona's Derrick Williams (Minnesota), will they regret that?...Meanwhile Cavs Coach Byron Scott loves the way Irving plays, and feels he will be a star in the league. Until that happens though, the Cavs will pray for 30 wins and continue to rebuild.
(9) Can the Clippers join the NBA Elite? Blake Griffin / Chris Paul MVP?
Rookie of the Year Clownin'
The Clippers, up until this year, has been the JV team in the City of Los Angeles. No doubt about it. After decades of penny pinching by the owner (Sterling), and horrible front office moves, they finally got it right by drafting Blake Griffin, aquiring athletic young stud and horrible FT shooter Deaundre Jordan, trading for Chris Paul (giving up Eric Gordon sucked) and aquiring Caron Butler and Chauncy B-B-B-Billups through free agency..Now they look like a team ready to make a move from the JV and share the spotlight - or dare we say - take it over from the Lakers. Should be a special year for the Clip Joint.
(10) Is this the Year of the Thunder?
Durant Westbrook combo must work to win Title
Anybody who watched the Oklahoma City Thunder last year in the playoffs KNEW two things; One, that this team has the talent to win it all and (two) can Westbrook and Durant get along? We feel like Durant will be MVP this season, only because it is CLEAR that he is "the man" on this team, the Batman, the lead guy, the Superstar. Russell Westbrook is the x-factor that seemed to be pouting during crucial moments of the playoffs, during nitty gritty parts of key games against the Mavs. If Westbrook can accept the fact that he is playing with one of the GREATEST scorers (and soon to be players) in NBA history, then the Thunder will have a great chance to win a NBA Title. This season. If not, it could be a stormy end of year. Westbrook and Durant have already been arguing this season and if they can't iron it out, either a blockbuster trade or a unsettling situation will be the final result in OK City. They have all of the pieces to win a Title; Two great 1 on 1 players, athletic bigs who can guard and rebound, wing players of all sorts, and speed and defense at the top of the League. But can they get that cohesion that will lead you there? If you looked that the Mavs last year, their teamwork and team first mentality was unparalled in the NBA. Can the Thunder get to that level?
